Performed with the Hong Kong Ballet!

It was an unforgettable experience to perform with the Hong Kong Ballet for their staging of Billy Novick’s The Great Gatsby from October 27th through November 6th!

In opulent 1920s New York, the enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby throws lavish parties at his palatial mansion with gorgeous women and free-flowing champagne. As carefree frivolity reigns against the backdrop of an all-consuming love, Septime Webre’s The Great Gatsby tells an extraordinary tale of stunning excess, unbridled greed and dark obsession. Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, this spirited production bursts with stylish dancing, shocking scandals and steamy jazz music performed live by Billy Novick’s Blue Sycopators, awardwinning blues singer E. Faye Butler, vocalist and narrator James Seol.

As jealousy and tragedy ensue, The Great Gatsby reflects on the clash between ‘old money’ and ‘new money’, the disintegration of social values and the pursuit of luxury and pleasure. Local veteran performer Tan-ki Wong’s bravura tap dancing and Academy Award-winning designer Tim Yip’s (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) original Art Deco sets and costumes delightfully capture the sound and exuberant energy of the Jazz Age, as Gatsby dreams of being reunited with his long-lost love.
